Montessori at Rotary Park

"Education is not what the teacher gives; education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the human individual and is acquired not by listening to words but by experiences upon the environment" - Maria Montessori

The 6 - 9 Montessori class was first established at Rotary Park School in 2001.It is made up of children aged between 6 - 9 years. They begin their Montessori Primary experience in the term of their 6th birthday.

The classroom encompasses these aspects of the Montessori philosophy:

  • fostering a love of learning
  • encouraging initiative, independent work habits, self motivation and concentration
  • helping each child to develop self respect, respect for others, orderliness, sociability and respect for their environment
  • providing freedom for each child to follow their own individual interests

The classroom environment is designed to facilitate maximum independent learning. The children use specialised Montessori equipment to assist them with their understanding of a wide range of concepts in all curriculum areas. Children are free to independently choose their work and proceed at their own pace. This gives children confidence and enables them to grasp concepts and abstracts more readily before moving on. The children in the Montessori class are fully integrated with other classes for whole school activities, sports, museum visits, choir and musical productions.

For more information about the Montessori class contact the school and arrange a time for a visit.
